New Zealand Working Holiday Visa Application

You can submit an online application from any location in the world. You will need a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) to pay for the application unless you are exempt from fees. If your application is approved, an electronic visa will be sent to you.

Working Holiday Visa Requirements and Process

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is responsible for processing your New Zealand Working Holiday Visa applications. However, from the time your online application is submitted successfully, it often takes up to 25 working days.

What requirements do applicants need to demonstrate?

Basically, they have to meet health, character and fund requirements as essential requirements. Each nationality is subject to their New Zealand working holiday visa instructions, such as insurance, qualifications and English requirements as additional requirements.

Can I still apply when I am 30 years old?

Typically, you need to be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of applying for a New Zealand working holiday visa. But, for Canadian nationals, the age at the time of application can be up to 35. If you are from the UK or Canada, you can stay and work in New Zealand on a working holiday visa for up to 23 months in total.

How long can I study while on a New Zealand working holiday visa?

You may study for up to 6 months.

What is the oldest age you can emigrate to New Zealand?

There is a 55-year-old age restriction if you intend to immigrate to New Zealand using a Skilled Migrant Resident Visa Straight to Resident Visa or Greenlist Work to Residence Visa. The age requirement does not apply to partner of a New Zealander resident visa.

Can spouse of work visa holder work in New Zealand?

You may be permitted to travel to New Zealand to work for the same period as your partner's visa if your partner is on eligible working visa meeting the eligibility requirements. You must still meet the normal partnership criteria.

Can I get a work visa after studying in New Zealand?

If you have completed coursework leading to a degree at level 7 or higher, a post-study work visa may be issued to allow you to work for any firm.
You can still be eligible for a post-study work visa if you have studied for a non-degree qualification at level 7 or lower. The qualification you studied must be on INZ’s approved list and your chosen career path must be relevant to your academic interests. The post-study work visa processing time is as short as 20 work days or as late as 5 months.
