Student VisA
Apply for a Student Visa today!
You can apply for an Online Student Visa in New Zealand anytime, as long as you meet the student visa requirements. But it does not mean you are guaranteed to receive a student visa. The statistics from August to September 2022 represent a rather challenging reality. Onshore and offshore applications recorded 38% and 24% of student applications were declined, respectively. Like other visa applications, you will need to present your persuasive argument on a cover letter that you are entitled to have the visa in light of relevant immigration instructions, accompanying strong evidence to back it up to the satisfaction of your case officer. If your student visa application is declined, you will lose the non-refundable tuition fee and any other costs. Your future visa application(s) is likely to be adversely affected as a result. That is why it is prudent to have professional legal representation from an immigration adviser licensed by the NZ government.
Type of Student Visas
Fee-Paying Student Visa
This is the most orthodox student visa to allow you to take a course of your interest as an international student. You can study at primary, secondary, tertiary and language schools in New Zealand. You may be granted work permission on your student visa under some circumstances.
Pathway Student Visa
Since December 2015, the Pathway Student Visa (PSV) pilot programme has been in force to allow overseas students to study for up to 3 consecutive courses on a single student visa for up to 5 years. Only recognised Pathway education providers are eligible for this visa type.
Dependent Child Student Visa
Based on the family relationship with your New Zealand citizen/resident or a work visa-holding parent, you may be treated as a domestic student at primary and secondary schools. Please be advised that not all work visa holders can support their children for dependent child student visas and they are subject to health, character and dependent child requirements.

Applying for a Student Visa
1. Gather paperwork
Preparing an application varies in difficulty. If your student visa was declined or refused entry to New Zealand previously, you would need to provide more information to mitigate Immigration New Zealand’s concerns. Some official documents may take a while so make sure you plan ahead. We will evaluable your visa eligibility before sending you a service agreement for you to sign. If you enrol through us, we are able to contact your school to deal with all the paperwork to complete your enrolment process smoothly.
2. Submit supporting evidence
Many visas can be applied for online. In fact, that is the recommended application method by INZ. We include a cover letter or communication with INZ explaining your eligibility in light of relevant immigration instructions. That way, your case officer is likely to make a favourable decision quickly.
3. Wait for a decision on a visa
Please notify us of any changes relevant to your visa application. We are obliged to inform INZ if relevant to their processing. If additional information is required, INZ will get in touch with us and we will endeavour to furnish the documents to INZ as soon as practical.
As soon as a decision has been made, we will let you know about the outcome of your visa application. You may be granted work permission on your visa, depending on your study.
Should the decision be unfavourable, we will let you know what you should do next.
4. Get to New Zealand
You can now move to New Zealand to pursue your passion for learning.

FAQs about Fee-Paying Student Visas
How long is your student visa valid in New Zealand?
It depends on the length of your enrolled course. Generally, your student visa is granted no more than one month from the course completion day. If you enrol in the university programme in the first semester, your student visa will generally be valid until 31 March of the following year.
Is there an age limit to obtaining a Student Visa in New Zealand?
There are no age restrictions for obtaining a student visa in New Zealand. But you must justify why you want to study the specific course on a student visa. If INZ determines that you are not a bona fide student genuinely wishing to undertake study in New Zealand, your application will be subsequently declined.
How long is the Student Visa processing time?
Student visa processing time varies depending on several factors, such as your location, the type of school you intend to attend, your past immigration history of New Zealand or other countries and applicability of health or character issues etc. Generally, most student visas will be processed within approximately 70 days.
How much fund do you need to demonstrate to INZ?
You will require $17,000 or $20,000 per year if enrolled in compulsory education or any other type of school, respectively. Plus you will need to present your pre-booked outward ticket or equivalent after completing your study. Just showing that you have sufficient funds to support yourself while in New Zealand is inadequate, and your application could be declined on this basis.
Is there any telephone interview with an immigration officer?
Usually no. And immigration officers are not obliged to facilitate a telephone interview to gain more insights into your circumstances. Some nationalities tend to be invited for interviews more than others. Bear in mind that if you are an offshore applicant, INZ is not obligated to seek any more information by giving you a chance to respond to potentially prejudicial information, and INZ can decline your application immediately.
At New Zealand Visa Partner, we can represent your student visa application, write submissions and make correspondence with Immigration New Zealand, and even attend your interview.
